Football - Year 7 - STAC 3 HBAED 2
Yesterday afternoon the new Year 7 football team slipped on the Harris Boys' jersey for the first time. Following a rigorous trial process the 14 selected boys travelled down the road to St Thomas the Apostle College (STAC). On arrival the boys were greeted by hundreds of students surrounding the pitch, making lots of noise. It wasn't going to be an afternoon for the timid.
HBAED started the game well, playing the ball out from the back and getting the midfielders on the ball early.
However, it was STAC that made the early breakthrough following a lapse in concentration in defence. The goal got the STAC stalwarts in full voice and HBAED looked overawed. Ten minutes of chaos ensued, with a lack of communication and leadership leading to STAC scoring another two goals. Half time couldn't come soon enough.
Confidence
At the break, following a motivational pep talk, a number of substitutions were made. Lemar moved to goalkeeper and Larry to centre back. This settled the team and gave the boys the confidence to get the ball down and play. Tayo who was one of the stand out performers in the first half continued to control the central areas. Harley a second half substitute offered a huge threat down the right wing, showing great commitment for every ball.
The hard work soon paid off and the untiring Tayo drove in from the left before firing a right footed shot across the keeper and into the far corner.
In control
HBAED were in control. Samuel was thwarting any STAC attack's down the right and Joshua was holding the ball up well. Bilal moved into centre midfield and started to pull the strings, releasing Joshua with a lovely weighted pass resulting in Joshua finishing in the bottom left corner with aplomb.
HBAED continued to dominate with David having a free kick well saved and Harley unlucky to score.
The full time whistle came too early and HBAED were unlucky not to get anything from this game. The team showed great fight in the second half and fingers crossed they can register their first win on Tuesday in the inner London cup against Westminster.
Mr Nower's man of the match: Samuel – who dominated the left side of the pitch in attack and defence.
Mr Connolly's man of the match: Tayo – who pulled the strings in centre midfield. Worked hard all game.
