Winter Performing Arts Festival - Get Your Tickets!

Christmas show (1)Rehearsals are underway for our Performing Arts Winter Festival on Thursday 20 December, 6pm. Students from across the school will come together for a festival of music, drama and dance.

Get your tickets from reception now for just £1.

The event will include a Hub Fayre with stalls by different departments featuring activities, competitions and displays, while boys dressed as characters from well-known novels, such as Scrooge and Tiny Tim, will wander around performing scenes to visitors (hence the Novels of London theme for the evening). After the Fayre, visitors will be invited to watch a showcase of dance, music and drama which will be completely student-led. Compositions by GCSE Music students will be played as visitors are arriving and there will be an art exhibition too.

Arthur and Wesley, two of the stars of our production of Twelve Angry Men last term, will be the comperes for the evening. “We’ll introduce each act and provide some comedic relief moments too,” says Arthur. Wesley adds: “It’s going to be a great experience working with new people and seeing how we get along. We have a great cast already.”

All the back-stage roles will be student-led too, including set design, music and lighting, says Ms Warburton, speaking at the auditions. “It’s a chance for boys to express themselves in a creative way and also shows the cross-curricular nature of performance because there’s a performance element in all the stalls at the Hub Fayre too. It’s an opportunity for students to get a chance to perform in public, which they love. The boys enjoy being able to show a different side of their personalities. They get a real joy knowing that their teachers and friends are going to see them doing something different. Quite often teachers are surprised at what the students are doing and how committed they are to rehearsals, or seeing quiet students being vocal and confident.”

Acting

Middle: Kamari, Year 7, rehearses with Ms Price the dance routine he’ll perform on the night with Tyla, Year 7. “I’ve looking forward to making everyone happy through our performance,” says Kamari. For Tyla the biggest challenge will be performing in front of lots of people. “But I’m up for it!” he says.

Speaking

Diego auditions for the concert, performing one of his own compositions. “I wanted to audition because if people perform with different talents it can inspire other students and adults to be their best and to try new things,” he says. “I practise piano in school three times a week and also play clarinet.”
