Raising Aspirations - Careers Talk With J P Morgan

A Vice President from J P Morgan, a global leader in financial services, came into Harris Boys' Academy East Dulwich recently to speak to our Sixth Formers about their future pathways.

Ernest Boadu was very relatable to our students and understood the contextual issues that, if unchallenged, can dampen the boys' aspirations. Like us, Ernest is keen break down these barriers.

JP morgamErnest spoke of his ambitions as a young man to pursue a career in economics and gave examples of the resilience and determination he has demonstrated on his pathway to attain his personal goals. These are two of the 'Active Citizen' traits we try an instil in our students.

Ernest explained that having moved to London from Ghana aged 14, he completed GCSEs at a local school, Kingsdale, and then A Levels at another local Sixth Form College, Saint Francis Xavier.  He then attended Sheffield University before transferring to Brunel University to study Economics and Business Management.

Following graduation Ernest worked as a customer services assistant at Marks and Spencer’s to develop his communication and customer relations skills before taking a one week internship at Standard Chartered Bank (SCB). This work experience opened up both an interest and opportunity to join and develop with Ernst & Young (EY) as a Consultant for a few years before moving to Deloitte.

Now as a Vice President (Process Engineering) at J P Morgan, leading the design and operationalisation of processes and technology delivery across several new business initiatives, Ernest has a wealth of careers experience to share.

He made it clear to our students that working hard together we can smash down barriers to education, careers, wealth and inherited circumstances such as birthplace and socio-economic status do not have to determine our destinations.
