Academy Information

About Harris Boys' Academy East Dulwich

We are a purpose-built 11-18 school for boys which opened in September 2009. We are full in every year group and have 880 students on roll.

We are consistently in the Top 5% of schools nationally for student progress, and Ofsted Outstanding school, and we have an amazing level of welfare support.

As a small school, every individual student is known by the staff. We are able to tailor our curriculum and teaching practice to support the learning of the students. This is evident when you see in action initiatives such as 'Applied Learning Time' where students spend time each lesson specifically showing what they have learnt.

We benefit from a state-of-the-art building with the very latest facilities and equipment. We also offer a co-educational Post 16 with the nearby Harris Girls' Academy East Dulwich.

Academy Ethos

We believe that education is the key to social mobility. We pride ourselves on ensuring students achieve excellent academic outcomes and develop as Active Citizens themselves. Together these two elements provide students with the Master Key to their future, ensuring they can go on to do and be whatever they want to.

In practice we achieve this by delivering a broad, balanced, ambitious and innovative Curriculum which challenges students to think critically. The delivery of our exceptional curriculum is carefully planned, and research informed. We are passionate about developing teacher pedagogy and use all the incredibly talented teachers and staff that we have at the Academy to build this model as a team.

Our location

Harris Boys’ Academy East Dulwich is located in the London Borough of Southwark and set in a beautiful location next to the expansive Peckham Rye Park. We have an incredibly modern school building, equipped with the latest interactive technology in every classroom.

Transport links are excellent, with Peckham Rye station just a 12-minute walk from the Academy, or an even shorter bus journey. Many of our staff live in the local area or commute via London Bridge, an accessible route in and out of London.

Peckham itself is a vibrant place with numerous great restaurants, cafes and bars. We are located close to Lordship Lane in East Dulwich, an iconic South London High Street packed with shops.

Why work for us?

Professional development

Our CPD programme is exceptional. We plan it using the EEF Research as our base and ensure we adopt the new ‘Golden Thread’ approach. All internal CPD is bespoke to the member of staff and complimented by access to the NPQ programmes through the National Institute of Teaching. As the Harris Federation is a lead provider, a number of our staff not only take part in NPQ programmes but also lead their delivery nationally.

Over 50% of our current staff trained with us and have developed their careers through our CPD programmes.

Other benefits

Staff wellbeing and workload is carefully considered. We follow the DFE Wellbeing Charter and work closely with staff to ensure they enjoy working at the academy.

We have a ‘Live Marking’ policy and only two assessment entry points per year, cutting back hugely on teacher administration.

Our weekly staff CPD breakfast is enjoyed by all and there are thriving staff working parties on a number of key national challenges currently such as anti-racism and anti-misogyny.
