Isle of Wight Trip - October 2015

IoW3 (1)

Day three

See gallery at bottom of page for lots more pictures.

The second night ended with more fun in the pool. The boys put through their paces with some tough activities followed by the water polo tournament.

The boys and staff were all up early for a big breakfast (Mr Hutton had a slightly larger breakfast) before a morning packed full of activities including multi sports and keel boating. As usual the competition was high! The boys came back and packed up ready to depart after an amazing trip.

The ferry home consisted of an award ceremony, all students were given an award for achievement and individual awards were given to:

  • IoW3 (1)Yahya- commitment
  • David s - team work
  • Hope - leadership
  • Eben - most improved boy
  • David - communication
  • Richard - resilience
  • Jem- optimism
  • Joel - gentlemanly conduct
  • Aaron - all round boy

The boys are currently sat on the ferry enjoying lunch and games, enjoying the amazing views of the Isle of Wight.

All in all an excellent trip, with well-mannered students who have a positive attitude towards learning. All students have had an experience that will last them a lifetime.

We will be travelling by coach back to school estimated time of arrival 3-4pm. See you later!

Day Two

The boys woke up to a gorgeous sunset at 7.30, starting the day with a buffet breakfast before starting their activities.

The boys took part today in windsurfing/paddle boarding, showing great determination and character to be successful. It was a great sight to see the boys come back in having achieved the right technique and conquered demanding tasks.

The dinghy group showed great determination and team paddling in pairs, the instructors at UKSA testing their nerves by teaching a safe capsize. As usual our boys took to the challenge and took on the cold water with a great attitude.

The keel boating group took on the tide in the Southampton Solent waters, showing strong teamwork, leadership and communication skills.

Tonight they move on to more swimming and pool games. The boys are excited after an excellent competition in the water polo last night.

All the boys have performed amazingly and have been taken out of their comfort zone, but risen to the challenge.

Two quotes from UKA staff:

  • 'Your students have been an absolute pleasure, they are friendly, polite, well mannered and show a great enthusiasm for learning.'
  • 'Your students have been a dream since they got here. Their behaviour around the campsite and during activities has been impeccable, I wish every school was like yours.'

The boys wake up early tomorrow for a morning of activities, before a quick lunch and back to school.

Another report will follow tomorrow....

IoW (6)Day One

Forty excited Year 8 boys left HBAED at 6am this morning on route to the Isle of Wight.

Throughout the journey the boys' behaviour was to the highest standard with one member of the public saying: "I have never seen such well behaved boys, it was a pleasure to have them on the ferry."

A member of staff from the ferry also said: "I thought your children were the politest and most amazing children we've had on this ferry."

We arrived at UKSA in East Cowes at midday to a buffet lunch and the boys were unpacked and ready for raft building at 1pm. The boys showed teamwork, enthusiasm, creativity and great communication as they constructed their rafts.

They took to the water to race their rafts. However the race was sabotaged when Mr Bray, Mr May, Mr Hutton and Mr Metcalfe jumped into the freezing cold water to rock the rafts.

The race ended in lots of students and staff splashing in the water! The boys then spent time performing jumps into the water.

Later today the boys will be in the swimming pool for activities.....please look again tomorrow for more information and photos.
