World Book Day Character Hunters

World Book Day Character Hunters

Students across the school embraced the spirit of World Book Day and The National Year of Reading by taking part in Character Hunters, a lively literary game created by the library team.

Guided by our enthusiastic student librarians, 50 members of staff were asked which fictional character they would most like to be. Their choices—from heroes and adventurers to detectives and dreamers—were transformed into colourful posters and hidden around the school for students to find. The whole community threw themselves into the challenge with great excitement.

The hunt was open to every year group, with prizes adding an extra thrill to the chase. The first Year 7 and 8 boys to successfully track down all 50 characters earned a grand reward of 10 free cookies to share with their friends, while the first 80 students who located 20 characters each claimed a well‑deserved cookie of their own.

Beyond the fun and friendly competition, the game encouraged students to explore stories they may not yet have encountered. By spotlighting characters beloved by trusted adults in school, the activity aimed to spark curiosity, invite fresh reading journeys, and highlight the extraordinary power fictional characters have to inspire.

Among the many staff choices, Principal Mr. Brett selected English Soldier Richard Sharpe—from Bernard Cornwell’s Sharpe historical fiction series—praising him as a figure of courage and inspirational leadership.

This spirit of admiration and discovery was at the heart of Character Hunters, and the library congratulates every student who took part. Whether students found all 50 characters or simply enjoyed the search, each participant helped celebrate reading as an adventure—one led by imagination, shaped by heroes, and shared across our whole school community.

Our library gets ready for World Book Day 2026.
