Personal Development
At Harris East Dulwich Sixth Form, we don’t just focus on academic success – we’re here to help you grow into confident, independent young people.
Sixth Form is about more than just lessons; it’s about developing the skills, mindset, and experiences that will set you up for the future.
Independent study and rewards
Beyond lessons and homework, we expect you to spend around 3-4 hours per subject each week on independent study. Study periods are a great time for this, and if we see you consistently working hard and making progress, you’ll be rewarded for your efforts.
Tutor time – stay organised and get involved
Your tutor time isn’t just about admin – it’s designed to help you stay on top of your workload. You’ll learn how to plan your time, set priorities, and create task lists to keep yourself organised.
You’ll also take part in our termly ‘Big Talk’ sessions, where you’ll debate and discuss big topics like cancel culture and current affairs. These sessions help you build confidence in speaking up and thinking critically – skills that are essential for success in the future!
We’ll help you explore the big questions of modern life, helping you develop the knowledge and skills to navigate challenges and opportunities in the world around you.
Clubs and societies – on your terms
Sixth Form is your chance to try new things, take action on issues you care about, and develop leadership skills. Whether you want to join a club or start your own, there’s plenty to get involved with, for example:
- Raising and Giving Society – fundraise for local charities and make a difference in your community
- Medi Soc and Health Care Society – meet weekly to explore healthcare topics and prepare for careers in medicine
- Subject ambassadors – become a subject expert, support younger students, and explore new research in your field
If there’s something you’re passionate about, why not set up your own society? We love seeing students take the lead and create opportunities for each other.
The DISCOVER Programme – managing stress and wellbeing
Sixth Form is exciting but can also be challenging. That’s why we run the DISCOVER programme in partnership with the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.
Led by Dr Sclare, a clinical psychologist, this programme helps you develop strategies to manage stress, worry, and the pressures of Sixth Form life. Each year, students who take part find it hugely beneficial – and we strongly encourage everyone to get involved.
Sixth Form is a fast-paced, transformative two years where you’ll grow, learn, and prepare for the next stage of your life. We’re here to support you every step of the way – so make the most of the opportunities available and enjoy the journey.
