Building Confidence in Descriptive Writing Through Pobble Workshop
To celebrate World Book Day, a group of talented Year 7 and 8 students took part in a live Pobble Writing Workshop.
Guided by expert writing coaches, the session used an exciting Pobble 365 prompt to inspire creativity and build confidence in descriptive writing.
Students explored how to use sensory language to bring settings to life and crafted two vivid descriptive paragraphs during the workshop. It was fantastic to see them share ideas, experiment with language, and develop their storytelling skills.
Crafting descriptive paragraphs with sensory language

During the workshop, students were guided to write two descriptive paragraphs. Their challenge was to build a vivid atmosphere using sensory details – sights, sounds, smells, textures, and even emotions – to draw readers into the heart of their stories.
It was impressive to watch students pause to consider how a setting might feel, what a character might hear, or which small details would make a scene truly come alive. This focus on sensory language not only strengthened their descriptive writing but also encouraged them to think like authors: intentional, observant, and imaginative.
The event was a wonderful opportunity for our young writers to celebrate the joy of reading and writing—and to experience the magic of books in a fresh and engaging way.
