Year 9 Visit Christie's Auction House

Our Year 9 Harris Experience students had the exciting opportunity to visit the prestigious London office of Christie's auctioneers.

It provided an opportunity to understand the varied work Christie's do in the international sale of items that range from traditional artwork and furniture to the emerging markets of sports goods and even Pokemon cards.

The value and status of goods is reinforced by the provenance required to authenticate an item. Our group of 15 students displayed an uncanny knowledge of the value of modern art pieces and its growing value, in a quiz that explored the various items Christie's sell both in London and the company's other offices.

We heard a talk from their educational co-ordinator about her own experiences making her way in the industry and the choices she made, which resonated with our students as they chose their options for Key Stage 4 and Year 10.

Evidence was given to indicate the need to seize every opportunity that arises for positive experience, but to remain clear eyed about personal ambitions and pursuing them.

This activity was the second of three provided by the educational team at Christies which culminates in the opportunity to exhibit work they have produced themselves, and which will be judged on its creative merits by the Christie's curators.
