Book Club Kicks Off its Shoes

There is something rather special about walking into the library after school and finding students completely absorbed in their books.

Our Book Club has quickly become one of the most relaxing and enjoyable parts of the week, providing a welcoming space where students can unwind, enjoy a cookie and lose themselves in a great story.

The club has developed a lovely sense of community among readers who enjoy spending time together with a book in hand, sharing the quiet company of others who love reading just as much as they do.

For many students, Book Club feels like a home from home. Blazers are draped over chairs, ties are loosened, shoes are kicked off under tables and the pressures of the school day are left at the door. It is a chance to get comfortable, settle into a favourite chair and simply enjoy reading in a calm and friendly environment.

What makes Book Club so successful is its simplicity. There are no tests, no assignments and no pressure. Just comfortable surroundings, great books and the opportunity to read for pleasure with other book lovers!

The positive atmosphere is something our students clearly value. In a recent survey, members gave Book Club an impressive satisfaction score of 53 out of 60, with the same score recorded when students were asked whether they would like the club to continue. Students also reported being able to concentrate well on their reading and enjoyed spending time with other readers.

Many students commented on the peaceful atmosphere, showing just how much they appreciate having a space where they can slow down, switch off and become immersed in a great book.

Members also shared some thoughtful ideas for the future, including the creation of cosy reading nooks and setting aside a few minutes at the end of each session to chat about what they have been reading. We love these suggestions and look forward to seeing how Book Club continues to grow.

Perhaps the most telling piece of feedback of all was a simple request for more time. We can think of no better sign that Book Club is achieving exactly what it was designed to do: fostering a love of reading and giving students a chance to enjoy books purely for pleasure.
