Geography Fieldwork Trip to Dorset's Jurassic Coast
Geography students from Harris Academy East Dulwich Sixth Form have completed a three‑day fieldwork programme at the Jurassic Coast in Dorset.
This experience has provided students with valuable opportunities to practise both human and physical geography fieldwork techniques, supporting their independent studies.
On the first day, students undertook retail land‑use and environmental quality surveys to investigate regeneration in the tourist town of Boscombe. The second day was spent completing beach profiles and sediment surveys at Chesil Beach and Durdle Door, exploring geomorphic processes in a coastal environment. On the third day students were able to investigate carbon storage in trees and infiltration rates in woodland. Each day has been supplemented by evening sessions focused on using secondary data and presenting findings.

The weather has been in keeping with the seasonal conditions we have experienced in London; however, spirits have remained high throughout the trip. A big thank‑you to Mr Downs and the other Harris Federation Geography consultants for supporting the students during this valuable fieldwork experience.
