Berlin History Trip for Years 9 and 10 - Pictures
Over the May half-term, students from Year 9 and Year 10 went to Berlin on a History trip.
Students were able to visit important sites for learning about Nazi Germany and the persecution of individuals under the Nazis including the Sachsenhausen Memorial, the Topography of Terror and the Reichstag.
They also visited important sites related to the Cold War, including the Palace of Tears, the Berlin Wall and a guided tour of a Stasi Prison.
There was even time to visit some important culutral sites such as the Brandenburg Gate, where students saw the motorcade of President Zelensky and a trip up the Berlin TV Tower to enjoy spectacular panoramic views of the city.

What students said...
"The four days we had in Berlin were absolutely fantastic, each day having its own theme correlating to the curriculum. My favourite part of the experience is between the Stasi Prison 'Hohenschönhausen' or the Sachenhausen Concentration Camp. Hohenschönhausen, an interrogation prison in the outskirts of the city, had a wonderful tour that detailed the extensive and cruel nature of the Secret Police (Stasi) during the Communist era. Sachenhausen, a concentration camp nearby gave an insight to the transparent cruelty of the Nazis, whilst also learning of the experiences of prisoners of the camp. The two prisons were used by the ruling powers to reign terror and project power on political and social opponents. These two areas were also the most significant, standing as memorials to the brutality that the people of Germany have faced throughout the 20th Century, from Nazi Germany to East Germany." Agit, Year 9.

‘It was such an amazing experience, and I really appreciated the chance to go. One of my most powerful moments was visiting the concentration camp and prisons. It was a bit emotional and very eye-opening to see the site in person which really helped me understand the reality of what people went through during the Holocaust. We also went to a couple of museums and saw the Berlin Wall which was really interesting and well presented. They gave a clear picture of Germany’s history. Another memorable part was going up the famous TV Tower and seeing the whole of Berlin. We also visited the Brandenburg Gate nearby where we were lucky enough to see President Zelensky coming out."
