Institute of Physics Roadshow

Physics Roadshow (1)

On Thursday 25 June 2015 some of our students were treated a ‘wonderful’ physics roadshow. We were very fortunate to have Jon Clarke from the Institute of Physics come in and help the students answer that ubiquitous question, Ever Wondered Why?

He took the students on a journey from a molecule of water to burning tornado covering planets, colour, eyes and waves along the way, and of course the odd explosion.

We learned that it snows metal on Venus, that you would have to spend your whole life counting to count the number of water molecules in one mouthful of water, and watching a spinning disc can make your friend’s face induce you to vomit.

The pupils were really engaged, and enjoyed every moment, the hall was filled with ooos and ahhhs, the boys left buzzing about physics and learned a lot in the process.

“I really enjoyed it, it was educational, my favourite bit was the whoosh bottle because the fire changed colour.” Cem Halil, Year 10

“I liked it because the physics was really interesting and it was lots of stuff that I did not know. I found it fascinating how the spinning cup never fell off!” Tyreece Ruddock, Year 8
